Your AI can send a thousand cold emails. Can it hear the one reply that matters?
Most send skills blast and call it done. smartlead refuses to send until your domain is authenticated and your mailbox is warm, attaches the reply webhook before the first send so nothing fires into a void, and answers replies 1:1 through spidermail. A conversation, not a blast.
For founders and agencies whose AI runs outbound — and quietly loses warm replies to campaigns that looked, on every dashboard, like they worked.

Why it works when “just send it” doesn’t
POST /campaigns/{id}/start
→ 200 OK ✓ looks done
(no webhook, no DNS gate, no
warmup check — every reply and
click fires into a void)
The dashboard looks healthy. Days later a warm reply has gone cold, because it was never routed to a human.
checkDnsAuth ✓ SPF/DKIM/DMARC getMailboxReady ✓ warmed createCampaign → addCampaignWebhook → pushLeads → schedule → start listWebhooks ✓ attached (read-back)
Three scripts gate the risky steps with PASS/FAIL numbers the agent can’t fudge.
A 200 OK is not proof it worked. The read-back is.
What you actually get
It won’t send something unsafe
Refuses to start until SPF/DKIM/DMARC/MX pass and the mailbox clears a real warmup gate. It caps volume to the safe 20–50/day/mailbox band — you scale by adding mailboxes, not by torching a domain.
No silent zeros
Attaches the analytics webhook in the same flow as the campaign, before the first send, so no reply, click or bounce ever fires into a void. A campaign that reports nothing is a zero you didn’t know you had.
It answers replies 1:1
When a prospect replies, it drives a real human follow-up through spidermail — threaded, in your voice — instead of another blast. A conversation, not a one-way send.
The two rules that stop the silent failures

A real launch — every gate, in order
> launch this 3-step sequence to 200 leads from sms-chemicals.com
checkDnsAuth("sms-chemicals.com") .... SPF/DKIM/DMARC/MX PASS
verify-campaign-payload ............. tags resolve, 3 steps PASS
getMailboxReadiness ................. 2 mailboxes, 21d warm, 92% inbox
createCampaign → linkEmailAccounts (2 warmed, brand-filtered senders)
pushSequence → addCampaignWebhook (7 events) → pushLeads (2 x 100)
scheduleCampaign .................... 45/day/mailbox
verify-mailbox-ready ................ PASS → startCampaign ACTIVE
listWebhooks ........................ attached ✓ (the read-back)
Launched — 90/day across 2 mailboxes. Replies route to a 1:1
spidermail follow-up, not another blast.
Deterministic scripts gate the destructive steps — not an LLM grading its own work. That’s why it holds up in production.
I built this by dogfooding the same stack I run for clients.
smartlead is one skill in the system behind Di-Atomic — the marketing & compliance agency that runs cognitoAI, SpiderIQ and OPVS. If you want outbound that actually closes the loop — DNS-clean, warmup-gated, and answering every reply — in any of our seven languages, that’s the day job. Let’s talk.
